From the fictional world of Spider Robinson, Callahan's Crosstime Saloon was the beginning of a long series of books set in a diverse world like today's - but with a few twists.

It is a saloon or bar like no other - first - it is not advertised or promoted - you find it when you have a need to be there - not because you want to.

An unassuming Place, the front door has an immense crack in it caused by one Big Beef McCaffrey when he tried to stiff Mike Callahan and found out the exit policy, out the front door, regardless of whether it is open or not. The door has been repaired poorly.

Inside, you will find it brightly lit, Mike says that people who drink in dimly lit places are cavemen, with tall comfortable chairs, and lots of friendly company.

The centerpiece of the bar is the fireplace, specially designed as a concave parabola, and a chalk line some feet away. The Hearth in the alt.callahans incarnation of the Place has a peculiarity in the face of which even Spider Robinson's Pen rose...

The rules of the bar are simple; Every drink is a buck - after you finish, you can either collect your change from the cigarbox on the bar, or you can make a toast and toss your glass into the fireplace from the chalk line. Needless to say, Mike rarely if ever has to refill the cigarbox; and he gets a great deal on bulk glasses.

At the end of Callahan's Secret the Place is destroyed and the patrons decide to make a new bar called Mary's Place with Jake being the new barkeep.
