Bot

A "bot" is short for robot, a entity that is guided by scripted actions. One common platform for a bot is eggdrop, which can run on *nix or Windows (windrop). The most common language for an eggdrop is tcl.

Another common platform for bots is mIRC, which uses its own scripting language.

Bots can be made to react to almost anything in channel, and generally are only limited by the coder's imagination. They can be as simple as to control ops on channel, or more advanced bots like MikeCallahan (mIRC version and eggdrop versions), PixelCat (eggdrop) or MaxCat (unknown), which can approximate an Artificial Intelligence, taking commands in regular english, and respond in kind with set responses, or random responses.
